Great and insightful run down of possible nominees.
Out of curiosity what has been the typical size of political appointees (deputies and staff) that are picked to run the agency? And how has that changed or not over the years, particularly from Trump 45 to Biden and then to be seen in Trump 47?
I assume nothing like State Deparment where nearly half of the Ambassador corps is appointed.
I recall when I first started reading about IC, Porter Goss just came into town and brought his “Gosslings” and that didn’t go over particularly well. I believe Deputy Director (?) Cohen was quite a well regarded appointee with a functional role. GC makes sense too! Looking forward to additional reportage on the matter. Thanks!

That's correct. Very, very few political appointees -- I know CIA's General Counsel is also nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.
